I Can Be Silent No Longer

In today's New York Times, there was a rather brilliant - albeit slightly disturbing - article about how older Jewish voters in Southern Florida are having a tough time accepting Barack Obama.

The author, Jodi Kantor, runs through all of the rumors keeping The Greatest Generation from pulling the lever (poking the chad, rather) for Sen. Obama and dispels them one by one.

As I read through the article, a clear vision came to my mind: Rep. Robert Wexler's generation might not be able to get through to his parents' generation, but OUR generation most certainly gets along better with our grandparents'. For this reason, I want to organize a group of young Jewish professionals (YJPs) who support Obama and believe passionately that he should be our next President. Once we have a solid group of impassioned Gen-Xers, we can begin our valiant effort to sway the hearts and minds of the Bubbes and Zeydes of Boca Raton to let them know it is okay to vote for a solid, brilliant, charismatic Presidential candidate even though he has dark skin.

I am in the process of trying to contact Rep. Wexler, because I think he would be the most effective tool to help this plan come to fruition. If you are interested in being part of our team, or want to lend a hand in any other way (especially if you have a connection to Rep. Wexler), please let me know ASAP.

The speech Obama made today at Boca Raton Synagogue dispells any myth about his intentions. http://thepage.time.com/2008/05/22/obama-i-would-not-negotiate-with-hamas-hezbollah/

Good shabbos all and Baruch Obama '08
